The Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia offers important habitat for an abundance of plant, animal and fish species—many of which are currently rare or endangered, or at risk of becoming so. Ecosystems here have been widely impacted. Our service area extends across both East and West Kootenay, and maintains connections with national and international conservation collaborations.
This area is situated in the unceded territories of the Ktunaxa, Secwépemc, Sinixt, and Syilx Okanagan peoples who have stewarded this land since time immemorial, and whose values and culture continue to inspire and guide stewardship of this region. We are committed to learning, sharing and deepening relations with First Nations, and endeavor to support Indigenous-led conservation priorities and initiatives as we work collaboratively towards a shared future of stewardship and conservation.
