Our Mission:
The Columbia Lake Stewardship Society (CLSS) mission is to act as stewards in preserving the ecological health of Columbia Lake. Our vision is that by conducting water quality measurements, recording data, and circulating information and reports, we will engage others in our mission to preserve Columbia Lake’s pristine water and natural environment.
Our Vision:
The Columbia Lake Stewardship Society (CLSS) vision is that by conducting water quality and quantity measurements, recording data, and disseminating information and reports, the CLSS will communicate with and encourage others to join its mission to preserve Columbia Lake’s pristine water resources and natural environment.
In July 2013, meetings were held by concerned citizens to investigate forming a group to represent those interested in preserving the health of Columbia Lake. It was noted that several other associations and partnerships existed in the area with considerable experience including Lake Windermere Ambassadors, Columbia Wetlands Stewardship Partners, Living Lakes Canada, Columbia Basin Watershed Network, and BC Lakes Stewardship Society. But none focused solely on Columbia Lake, so soon after the Columbia Lake Stewardship Society was created. CLSS recognizes these other groups and works alongside our partners. CLSS has representation from Columbia Lake communities and works with the Village of Canal Flats and the Regional District of East Kootenay. CLSS has a dedicated team of seven directors including concerned citizens, local business owners, individuals from geology, meteorology, engineering and nursing professions. We are both permanent and part time residents. All have a keen sense of lake pride and cherish Columbia Lake and its environs.
