DESCRIPTION: Land securement is one of the most effective ways to mitigate threats to habitat and species. This project has secured, through fee simple acquisition, priority upland, dryland, and associated habitat. These lands provide valuable ungulate winter range and cross-valley connectivity to mountain ranges through neighbouring low elevation conservation areas. The property falls within the proposed critical habitat for the endangered American badger, and other documented species using these lands include bighorn sheep, mule deer and common nighthawk. The Geddes Creek property plays a vital role in regional connectivity as a key piece of the Kootenay Connect Radium Wildlife Corridor, linking Kootenay National Park with the Columbia Wetlands complex. This corridor is especially crucial for wide-ranging species like grizzly bears and elk. By securing this property, the Nature Conservancy of Canada can help ensure that wildlife can continue to move freely and thrive within this interconnected landscape.
