Kootenay Connect was launched in 2019 as a science-driven project that identified 12 key wildlife corridors linking riparian-wetland areas with adjacent uplands to support biodiversity, connected habitats, and climate change adaptation. By blending the best available scientific data, local and Indigenous knowledge, and community-based approaches, Kootenay Connect Society promotes landscape-scale conservation and ecological connectivity. Our work guides local efforts while informing provincial policy and aligns with the Canadian Ecological Corridors Program, 30×30 goals, and IUCN guidelines for conserving connectivity.
