Helping Conserve one of British Columbia’s Rarest Mammals
American Badgers are one of British Columbia’s most at-risk mammals, yet many people don’t realize they share our landscapes. Their populations continue to face threats from habitat loss, road mortality, and habitat fragmentation.
Goldeneye Ecological Services is working with partners to help conserve this remarkable species through habitat assessments, road mitigation, and research across the East Kootenays from Spillimacheen to Cranbrook.
This year, we’re interested in sightings from higher-elevation habitats, such as forested benches, open grasslands, logging roads, mountain roads, and other upland areas. We want to learn more about how badgers use higher-elevation landscapes.
If you see a badger or signs of badger activity in higher elevation areas, we’d love to hear from you. Your observations help improve our understanding of this remarkable species and support future conservation efforts.
