Invasive Plants
The City of Rossland has adopted a Knotweed Control Bylaw requiring all property owners to ensure their land is cleared of and remains free from knotweed. If a property owner fails to control knotweed, the City may carry out the work at the owner’s expense.
Because manual removal is ineffective and can worsen spread, repeated herbicide applications are currently the only proven method of control. While managing noxious weeds on private land is the landowner’s responsibility, the City offers financial support to help offset costs.
Cost-Share Rebate (Private Landowners):
- 50% rebate on eligible herbicide control costs
- Up to a maximum of $400 per property
- Applies to knotweed treatment on private land
- Landowners must apply for the rebate
In addition, the City conducts knotweed treatments on City boulevards and municipal properties to reduce spread across the community.
