The KCP Fall Gathering & AGM serves as one of the primary opportunities to connect and re-connect KCP partners from across the region.

This annual two-day event is taking place on September 29 and 30 in Cranbrook at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort. Book now at the Prestige to receive a discounted room rate specially reserved for the KCP Fall Gathering ($119.95 down from $189.95 — let them know you will be there for the KCP event).

The organizing theme for this year’s Fall Gathering is “Grasslands to Wetlands: Connecting Diversity”. We will explore rare habitats and species of the Kootenays and how to work together to steward them.

Special guests include DG Blair from Stewardship Centre for BC to share Species at Risk resources, Michael Proctor to discuss key grizzly bear corridors, Deb MacKillop to introduce the new BEC guide for grasslands and wetlands, Hillary Page to provide the basics of grassland ecology, and Tom Biebighauser on the Saturday field tour to discuss wetland construction and restoration. Tom will lead the Cherry Creek Wetland Project field trip assisted by Robin Annschild, who directed the actual restoration of the first set of wetlands at Cherry Creek.

Friday evening includes a banquet dinner, announcement for this year’s winner of the Conservation Leadership Award (see http://dev.kootenayconservation.ca/kcp-conservation-leadership-award/ to nominate someone), and the first screening in BC of Montana’s On the Shoulders of Giants short film about private land conservation.

The Saturday field tour includes visits to Pine Butte Ranch and Cherry Bummers Conservation Complex.
