Duncan Whittick is the co-owner of Non-profit by Nature, a Basin-based consulting firm that specializes in non-profit capacity building and collaboration. He was previously Operations Coordinator for the Kootenay Conservation Program, and is now working in an interim capacity as KCP’s Communications Coordinator.
His primary contract is as the Executive Director for Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network (CBEEN). He is also engaged with a number of other networks including the Kootenay-Boundary Chapter of the British Columbia School Superintendent Association, the Columbia Valley Greenways Trail Alliance, Groundswell Network Society, and the Canadian Network for Environmental Education and Communication.
Excited about the high value of collective action, Duncan is working to strengthen ties across environmental networks in the Kootenays. In addition to the KCP and CBEEN, Duncan is working collaboratively with the Columbia Mountains Institute (CMI), Columbia Basin Watershed Network (CBWN) and Wildsight to look for ways they can more effectively support stewardship and conservation in this region.
Duncan recently worked with several groups to help develop a directory of over 100 organizations that deliver classroom and community-based environmental education and outreach programs. This is hosted on CBEEN’s website here: http://cbeen.ca/directory/
He is also actively working with a provincial ‘Classrooms to Communities’ collaborative initiative involving organizations such as Science World, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Walking the Talk Network and the Environmental Education Provincial Specialist Association. Together with these groups, he is working to develop a number of initiatives, including the 2017 Leadership Clinic, 2017 Webinar Series and the 2018 National Environmental Education Conference.
Duncan is based out of Invermere where he and his wife and two young boys enjoy the incredible Kootenay lifestyle. Biking, hiking, paddleboarding, Nordic skiing and Ultimate all feature strongly in Duncan’s family’s weekly schedule.
