The organizing theme for the 2021 Fall Gathering was “Partnerships in Conservation”.
The KCP Fall Gathering & AGM serves as one of the primary venues to connect and re-connect KCP partners from across the region. For 2021, the Fall Gathering was a one-day virtual conference due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the Kootenays. We showcased examples of Indigenous-led restoration and conservation projects, and explored considerations for planning and implementing restoration projects. These five excellent presentations were followed by interactive “Conservation Cafe” discussions based on the following topics: Best practices for restoration; Wildfire fuel mitigation; Promoting private land stewardship; Partnering conservation with agriculture; Beavers as wetland engineers and Private land contributing to climate change solutions. We also presented our annual Conservation Leadership Awards and held our Annual General Meeting for KCP Partners as well. More than 60 people from across the Kootenays joined the Fall Gathering on Zoom, and over 20 KCP Partners attended our online AGM. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s virtual event!
